RACE/WEEKEND REPORT
Saturday:
Left Yosemite at 10:15am or so. Hey we left early so we’re totally going to get there early, right? Wrong. Fail. We got there at 11pm. We did stop twice for food because these foos had to eat out instead of snacking and or eating food that they could have made before hand. We hit traffic at around 5pm. I was napping but I’m sure it took about 1.5 hours out of our time. Joy’s GPS made us go to the 101 and then somewhere else that apparently did not help with our timing. Half of the drive was rainy and scawy. We will now google our way back this time. Your Garmin suxorz Joy.
Lights were out just before 12am. I wake up exactly at 4am with my noisy phone alarm. We all get ready, excited but subconsciously tired. Get to the race at 6:05 am. Registration opened at 6:00am which was inside the restaurant/bar thingamajig. Men’s B were supposed to start at 6:50 but were delayed almost 15 minutes. I rushed to the start line with some opened food that Joy threw in the back of my jersey. Of course Meg and Joy had the privilege of pinning me. Numba 857. Almost forgot to take off my hand pump and raced with my Open-Pros. Long story short I didn’t have my new cassette I needed for my zipps so I left the cassette from my ksyriums on my zipps. Shivering and wondering what the hell I was doing I heard the ref’s whistle and began hammering. Soon I realized my hammers were burning faster than usual. I got dropped by the second part of the climb. I told myself I should have attacked on the descent because we were going pretty slow. Ended up riding the second lap by myself. Felt so relieved when I finished. Damn asshole climbers. Went back to Joy’s car with water smacking my face. 40 minutes later after having hard time changing I went inside the restaurant to warm up. Ate an omelet with Julian and felt better. Almost 11:00am at this point. Joy was almost done with her first of 2 laps. Ajay and Evan finished at about 9:45am. Ajay finished a couple of places in front of Evan but he was still in the late teens though. Probably because his hair didn’t look so good. Oh well. Julian started at 12:30pm. Still with rain pouring down. Haha suckers, 3 laps. Damn gotta get in the car, I’m soaking wet. We left around 2pm. We went back on the course to try and find Julian. “Here they come guys, let’s see where he is. That definitely not them”, as the Masters passed us. “Here he comes, this is really them. Wait, those are the Men ½ “. “ That’s Minzo ( idk ok )”, he was attacking and we were all trying to find Julian. Never saw him. Let me text Ajay… Hey have you heard anything about Julian, Is he there with you? Omg, like my hair is wet. Ugh. …. We left. Julian later said he got dropped on the descent because he got something stuck in his eyes?
Sunday:
We got up around 5am. Ate and packed everything up. Yes we ate everything. We were on the road at around 6:00am. Got to Top Gun at 6:20. Even registered right before a really long line of D riders grew. Then Ajay got there late, maybe 6:50. They almost stop letting people register and then they changed their minds. They already had 60 people in the C/D category. Wow, good job Ajay + Julian. Evan in the meantime was on the trainer. Warming up for his first ever Crit. The start time was delayed about ten minutes. They were off at 7:10 am. “Go Evan, omg totally, omg Ajay how’s your hair…” Great stuff. Evan refused to stop racing even after being told 3 times to get out. Lawl. Ajay dropped out. He kept blaming Julian for being late and not having time to warm up. Meg was on the trainer getting ready because her field was next. She did pretty well getting sixth place. I didn’t have to much time to pay attention to the race because I was up next. Her Crit only lasted 30 min. Made Ajay pin me, and of course I got a noob pin job. I put on my secret weapon and did a warm up lap after only a 20 min warm up. Oh wells. I ended up with 4th place. Couldn’t catch the break away of 4 riders. Of course most people in the field did not want to work to catch up. I felt really good coming into the field sprint. In fact, when I started hammering the foolios. I only saw my shadow as I put everything I had in every pedal stroke. Joy was on her trainer being considerate and facing the race while she warmed up. She was up next. She was so nervous. Pobrecita. Untactical race the whole way. This one Davis rider just broke away and no one responded. Nor did the field try to do anything. She was by herself! I guess the were ok with 2nd? Until the last lap, We finally saw UCLA try and do something. The lonesome breakaway rider was almost going to lap them too! Hugged Joy after and told her she was the best and that she would have beaten them easily if she tried. So she was the first one. If you started counting from the back. Hey no worries Joy. A bunch of miscommunication began to occur as we tried and figure the lunch situation with Ajay and Julian. Fail. Anyways. We ended up going to this one interesting restaurant where we picked one out of dozens and dozens of sandwiches. We all though they were pretty good. Joy went to get her caffeine and we were on the road at 1:30 pm. Were all passed half way now and it’s 5pm. We had also just seen a rainbow and for some reason I thought of Adam and Rigo sitting on a tree while individual letters like K followed by I-S-S and the I-N-G popped into my head. But yeah. Joy even had to take of her Oakleys that seemed to be stuck on her head because this rainbow excited her. Wowzorz. Got back at 9pm. Chilled at Treehouse. Woot. GG
